Many times throughout our lives we want to make a positive change but the very thought just seems so overwhelming that we either never begin or we start and soon after our motivation starts to waver at the slow progress. The problem largely stems from our need for instant gratification, we have largely conditioned ourselves that if we want something then why wait. After all we have easy credit available to us, we have instant take away food, we have the internet for instant information.
The problem with expecting instant results from our goals in life is that it doesn’t necessarily progress at the pace we expect it to. That doesn’t mean you aren’t making progress. Instead what you should to make significant changes in your life and to create success for yourself is to begin a process of making a one degree shift each day from where you were yesterday. The Japanese used this concept to great effect turning them into an economic powerhouse within just a few decades. They called this concept of small, never ending improvements “Kaizen”. You too can implement small and never ending improvements in your life to change from the person you are today to the person you want to be tomorrow. This also works equally well for goals and any other thing that you want to tackle in your life. The basic premise of one degree shifts is like trying to eat an elephant. If you were to try and eat an elephant you would be overwhelmed just by looking at it and in fact you probably wouldn’t know where to begin. But instead if your one degree shift was just to eat the elephant one bite at a time each day for instance then in short order you will have eaten the elephant instead of sitting on the sidelines. So if there is an area of your life that you want to change or a goal you want to complete then set yourself a program of continual one degree shifts each day. One degree shifts might seem small and insignificant, and in reality you probably won’t even notice the progress or changes in the early days but if you keep at the one degree shifts daily over time you will be aiming in a whole new direction with your life.
