Success is the desire of every healthy person, isn't it? But just what is success? More importantly, what is success to you? To know if you are living successfully, you need to have a clear idea in your mind of what constitutes success. However, from one person to another, the definition of success is likely to differ. Take some time to look within to find your own personal definition of this important word. If you like, it could become a journal entry or part of your long-term life plan.
A word that often gets linked up with the word success is money. Of course, we all know money is not the equivalent of success. However, most of us have a picture in our minds of a lifestyle of abundance and ease that is only possible with a certain level of income. Even if the lifestyle you desire is simple, you may desire money for the sake of helping others or funding worthwhile projects. How important is money in your personal definition of success? As important as your income is, what is life without good health? A successful life will probably have some emphasis on health and energy. Do you have any special goals for your health? Perhaps you would like to have the stamina and energy to tackle a cross-country hike or bike ride. Maybe you'd like to build strength for carrying out daily tasks. Maybe you'd just like to look trim and attractive in your clothes. Or maybe you have a medical condition that can be improved by paying attention to your diet and exercise. Think about your health objectives as you determine your own definition of success. Relationships are another aspect of life that may be part of your personal idea of success. If your life is so busy pursuing wealth that you don't have time to spend with your spouse or children, it can hardly be considered a successful life. Consider what your goals for your relationships are as you ponder the meaning of success. Here's a tip - plan an evening each week as a date time for you and your special someone. It's very easy in the busy-ness of modern life to overlook the need to nurture that special friendship. Taking a weekly date forces you to focus on that person. Get in the habit and it won't be long before you'll find yourself looking forward to it all week. It's a good idea to plan a special activity with your kids each week, too. Single folks might enjoy a weekly social outing, as well. Finally, how is your relationship with yourself? It's part of a successful life to enjoy being the person you are. Are you pursuing the dreams you hold dearest? Do you like the person you see in the mirror? Practice smiling and believing that you are able to tackle anything life hands you. Let yourself have time to relax and pursue the hobbies and interests that really excite you. Success entails more than earning a lot of money, reaching goals or impressing other people. It's all about being the best "you" you can be. |
