Isn’t it surprising to hear how often people will value the hours they put into something. You see some workplaces where an “overwork culture” encourages their staff to work extra hours. So the employees happily get into the office at 7 am and leave at 7pm only to put in a few extra hours at home. They have this belief that since everyone else is doing it then they need to as well.
"Once upon a time there was a bear and a bee who lived in a wood and were the best of friends. All summer long the bee collected nectar from morning to night while the bear lay on his back basking in the long grass. When Winter came the Bear realised he had nothing to eat and thought to himself 'I hope that busy little Bee will share some of his honey with me'. But the Bee was nowhere to be found - he had died of a stress induced coronary disease". –Author Unknown We have all been in situations like this when we seem to think that productivity and the results you produce are tied in with the hours we worked. The reality is that often the amount of hours spent on a task has little correlation to the results you produce. All you have to do is look around and you will often see that some of the hardest working people are often the ones struggling the most. We have created a society that seems to value being busy and work. If you are busy then you are a productive member of society, if you aren’t busy then you must therefore be lazy. How far removed from reality is that considering that some of the greatest producers are some of the people who outwardly seem to work the least because things just seem to fall into place for them. They don’t seem to have to struggle and fight there way through a project because it just seems to work out effortlessly. The reason that this can often be the case is that results aren’t a consequence of action, it’s a consequence of right thinking. If you didn’t quite read that right then read it again. Your results is not by you taking action, it’s by you creating the right thoughts. And to do right thinking then you need to stop “doing” and start “thinking” instead. So to the world without you would of course appear to be doing nothing, but in reality you are doing everything. The greatest fallacy of man kind today is that we are now caught up in creating such a fast paced world that we don’t seem to want to stop and review what exactly are we doing and whether or not it is getting us to where we want to be going. So if you want to start producing greater results in your life then spend more time doing right thinking and less time preoccupied with just doing. Take a walk in the park or a quick break from work and just sit with your thoughts and a notepad. Ask yourself questions and see what answers you get. Ask yourself for example where do you want to be going, what can I do today to get me closer to where I’m going, etc. Spend more time listening to your thoughts as you will be surprised at how efficient your mind is at digesting huge amounts of information and ideas and giving you the right suggested path. |
